The new Manchester United boss is still planning to recruit more players into his squad to bolster the team ahead of the new season. Having already brought in 3 players it seems his target has now shifted to bringing in a winger.
According to The Mirror, Man Utd are ‘edging closer’ to signing the Brazilian international as Erik ten Hag looks to strengthen his attack for the next campaign.
The renowned news source have mentioned that the club are ready to get the signature of the 22-year-old in a deal worth £68m.
However, it’s rumoured that United initially moved in with an offer of £51m, which was turned down by the Dutch champions. Now, they must up the bid to lure Antony at the earliest.
The Mirror claim that the Old Trafford outfit are prepared to agree a contract with the player, they are set to hold talks with one of the Brazilian’s agents in order to agree personal terms.
Antony can play on either flank but naturally, he is a right-winger. The absence of Mason Greenwood as first choice RW in the last campaign, due to off the field issues has necessitated the need for a new right winger.
On the other hand, Rashford and Sancho were highly inconsistent last term and Elanga who came in towards the latter part of the season wasn’t reliable.
The more reason why Erik Ten Hag is keen on Antony who played under him while he was with the Dutch giants.
Last season, the South American attacker directly contributed in 22 goals for the Eredivisie giants under the guidance of the Dutch coach.
The new Premier League campaign will start in two weeks, and it remains to be seen whether the club will be able to get the deal over the line as soon as possible.
